A Step Forward in Understanding the Hydrogen Adsorption and Compression on Activated Carbons

چکیده
Hydrogen adsorption on activated carbons (ACs) is a promising alternative to compression and liquefaction for storing hydrogen. Herein, we have studied hydrogen six commercial ACs (CACs) with surface areas ranging from 996 2216 m2 g–1 in temperature range of 77 273 K pressures up 15 MPa. Excess capacities 2.3 5.8 wt % were obtained at 4 We demonstrated that, contrary what normally done, capacity more accurately predicted by the area determined nonlocal density functional theory method applied N2 CO2 data than Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) area. The modified Dubinin–Astakhov (MDA) equation was used fit experimental data, relationship between MDA parameters (nmax, Va, α, β) textural properties CACs first time. concluded that nmax Va are related BET area, while α β average micropore size total pore volume, respectively. evaluate enthalpy entropy show these can be assess best carbon storage or compression.

Understanding Phenol Adsorption Mechanisms on Activated Carbons
The interactions between phenol molecules and activated carbons were investigated in order to understand the adsorption mechanism of this aromatic compound. A series of activated carbons with varied chemical composition but similar porous features were synthesized and submitted to phenol exposure from aqueous phase, followed by thermogravimetric analysis and identification of the desorbed speci...

Physisorption-based hydrogen (H 2) storage in microporous carbons has a trade-off between adsorption capacity and adsorption enthalpy [5]. Conceptually, this problem is best illustrated in terms of the ideal slit pore formed from two parallel, semi-infinite graphite slabs. Packing density is maximized when the pore width is several times larger than the diameter of the H 2 molecule, since it pe...

The objective of this work was to evaluate the hydrogen storage capacities of various activated carbon materials in form of granules, powders, fibers and clothes under cryogenic and ambient temperature conditions (77K 293K), at pressures up to 30Bar. The experimental data were analyzed for carbon samples covering a wide range of BET surfaces and microporous volumes. At 293K, the storage capacit...
متن کاملHydrogen Adsorption on Activated Carbon
The adsorption of hydrogen on carbon nanotubes and activated carbons has generated considerable interest in relation to hydrogen storage for fuel cells applications[1-3]. However, the widespread use of hydrogen as a fuel is limited by the lack of a convenient and cost-effective method of hydrogen storage. Adsorption of supercritical hydrogen is limited by the low interaction energy between hydr...
